Hey guys, guess what tomorrow is? First day of school! I'm going to be a sophomore this year and i hope everything goes well. The school is serving pizza tomorrow but I think i'm going to stick with my peanut butter. Also, I have timed-miles for cross-country tomorrow and i'm not looking forward to that. The only up side to the miles is it will be working my Fast Twitch IIa muscle fibers, so it's not all bad. I have an upper body workout today and I recently (yesterday) started doing these things I like to call "D.D.'s" which stands for "Daily Drills" for high jump. It's basically some back and hip stretches then some high jump clearance drills. I do the DD's along with my Core Stability everyday. I think during school i'm going to wake up early in the morning and do my DD's and core stability before school, then go to cross-country after school, get home and do homework, and then do my workout. I'm going to revert back to the regular jump manual schedule for school, but i'm still on my summer schedule for about 2 more weeks. I've seen some gains during my summer training but it was interrupted because of cross-country. My "Game Plan" for training this year (2013-2014) is this:
1. During cross-country do the regular jump manual schedule
2. After cross-country do modified jump manual schedule (serious training)
3. During track season do no jump manual and just do track workouts at practice (high jump season)
Other than that, here is the video I promised of my bicycle time trial I did a couple of days ago. It was awesome, there was even a Cat. 1 racer there!
Peace,
Mason

Good luck with the upcoming year. High school is a great time in your life. Enjoy it! Also, I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle on your diet or which muscle fibers you're working. At your age, your metabolism is cooking and you'll need lots of additional calories for recovery. Also, at your current strength levels, any intense workouts will help you improve. In high school XC do they still do 5ks or is it a different distance? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteBTW, there's this norwegian chick you should check out on youtube. http://youtu.be/XCHfnjurV3k
ReplyDeleteShe's one of the best in Europe, and still a teenager. Figure a high jumper like you would appreciate it.
Thanks for all the tips! I let my "diet" sometimes prevent from getting additional nutrients. Yes, they still do 5k's in high school and 2 milers in middle school. Thanks for the video of that girl, she is crazy! I don't think I've seen a teen age girl with that kind of vertical!
